Diamond & Pearl is the first expansion of the Diamond & Pearl Series, the set is based on Pokemon Diamond & Pearl and features Generation IV Pokemon, and the two game Legendary Pokemon Dialga & Palkia. Released in May 2007, Diamond and Pearl has 130 cards, and introduced Pokemon LV.X, this is a type of Pokemon called “Level-Up Pokemon”, which are able to use any attack, Poke-Power or Poke-Body from its previous Level. Other changes in Diamond and Pearl include Poison type Pokemon changing from using Grass Energy to Psychic Energy, Supporter and Stadium cards became their own class of cards instead of being subsets of Trainer cards and Darkness and Metal Energy received new basic Energy forms.
An updated card design also came with Diamond & Pearl with the Pokemon’s Level returning, along with a smaller HP before the amount and the evolution box was moved to below the Pokemon’s name.
A new numbering system was added to the cards, alongside the regular numbering for a set, Diamond and Pearl Series cards also had a number on the lower left of the card DPBP# which was a Battle Pokedex combining National Pokedex and the habitat systems from FireRed and LeafGreen. Reverse holofoil cards in this set onwards featured a holofoil on the entire card excluding the artwork, previously it had only been on the background of the card.
Cards to keep an eye on in this set included Torterra LV X #122, Infernape LV X #121 & Empoleon LV X #120.
